Objectives of the Course

The main aim of this course is to teach the students how to comprehend subtle and deep meanings while reading or listening in Turkish; to establish the consciousness of Turkish as one of the richest, the most creative and fundamental languages; to feel an affection toward the language; to have pleasure in reading, to have good reading habits and develop reading abilities, and also to teach fundamental cultural values of the Turkish people; in short to develop and increase thinking, writing and communication abilities of the students as individuals.

Learning Outcomes

1	to perceive, define and exemplify the regulations of the Turkish language; and to understand and explain the relation between the language, the idea and the culture;
2	to comprehend and express the structure, the function and the dimension of the language;
3	to understand and comprehend the differences between the oral language and the written text;
4	to be able to analyze a text to be read, heard; or a programme watched;
5	to be able to express the senses, envisions, and observations by using effective words and sentences both orally and in written form;
6	to be able to classify the languages in the world according to their roots and structures;
7	to be able to explain the phonetics of the Turkish language;
8	to be able to apply the basic terms of morphemes;
9	to be able to explain the basic concepts of syntax and semantics;
10	to comprehend and explain different language mistakes in use on the texts;
11	Develop a scientific, analytic, critic, creative and supportive thinking and mind;
12	educating students who claim national and global ethic values as their own; tolerate the opposite ideas in discussions, thinks and creates their ideas about local, national and global problems, and fluently uses Turkish language both orally and in written form while talking on any issues.

3	Explaining the relation between language, literature and culture.
4	Comprehending the different types of language (spoken language, written language, mother tongue, natural and artificial languages; dialects.)
5	Explaining the relation between culture and language, the elements of culture; culture and civilization; cultural varieties, and differences.
6	Introduction to the language families of the world, classification of the languages, and learning the places of the Turkish language among the others.
7	Understanding the development and periods of the Turkish Language.
8	Midterm Exam
9	Explaining the parts of grammar; phonetics and classification of phonemes in Turkish Language.
10	Explaining the Contemporary Turkish Language period, the alphabets being used in Turkish Language.
11	Introduction to the phonemes, vowels, consonants, syllable, consonant changes and euphony in Turkish language.
12	The aspects of morphemes in the Turkish Language; word building structures, the stem, the body, the base, and classification of suffixes.
13	Introduction to word classification (the nouns, adjectives, adverbs, verbs, conjunctions, ejaculations, and prepositions.)
14	Introduction to the syntactical aspects of Turkish Language; components of sentences, variety of sentences, and exercises on sentence components.
15	Explanation of the semantic aspects of Turkish Language; basic meaning, synonym and antonym meanings, contraction and broadening in meaning.
