Objectives of the Course
Community pharmacists, as easily accessible health workers, provide primary health care services, including training and counseling, to protect human health and reduce illness. Ethical and professional behavior, solid pharmacy knowledge, effective problem solving, organization and communication skills form the basis of the primary care pharmacy practice. The aim of the Pharmacy in Primary Health Care is to provide students with this foundation.

Content of the Course
This course includes the duties of community pharmacists in encouraging and assisting patients to take responsibility for their own health, either individually or in groups. Treatment, training, information, referral and participation in public health campaigns are some of the ways in which this task is fulfilled. Primary health care may also include veterinary issues, particularly in rural areas. Public health activities are activities that focus on communities or groups rather than on individual patients. These are carried out almost exclusively by the state in the context of specified health-related objectives or targets and may be for environmental control or human health. Examples of environmental audits include water and air quality, industries with harmful effects on health, waste disposal, prevention of certain infectious diseases, production, labeling and distribution of foodstuffs and medicines. Activities related to individual health strategies include health education and nutrition counseling, immunization programs, neonatal clinics, medical and dental services in schools, treatment and control of sexually transmitted diseases. Activities in the field of public health aim to protect health and prevent disease and injuries. These activities complement the health care service provided to the patient during the treatment of diseases. These generally target either a risky cross-section (eg, smokers) identified within the population, or where the risk is generally applicable, the entire population (eg vaccination for tetanus). Health promotion is a process that enables people to improve their health by increasing their control over the factors that determine health. Community pharmacies are healthcare providers that are easily accessible and highly reliable in the public. Community pharmacists play an important role in improving health, prevention of diseases and meeting the primary health care needs of patients by serving on the border between self-care (self-care) and primary health care. Today, the spread of primary health care services creates many opportunities for pharmacists involved in these services. The provision of primary health care services affects the quality use of drugs. The services provided by pharmacists in primary care require drug use and/or clinical information. For this reason, this course includes the support and contribution to the optimal use of drugs.
