History

ChemicalTechnology Programme was established in 1996 with the support of the World Bank. Education of program continues within Ege Vocational School in the Ege University campus. In ChemicalTechnology Programme, the education is provided to train qualified technical personnel to the chemical processing sector. In the same time, one of the main aims of program, the best way is to prepare the students to today’s working conditions. In the program syllabus and course contents continuously is updated according to the needs of the industry. The Chemical Thechnology Program is an associate degree program which given training qualified personnel. In 2004 second education was established and in 2020, this programme was closed with the decision of the senate, and the chemical technology programme still continues its education with formal education.

Profile of The Programme

Equipped "Chemistry Technicians" with analytical thinking and problem-solving skills who can adapt to working conditions in the chemical industry are trained.

Occupational Profiles of Graduates With Examples

Graduates of the Chemical Technology Program work in all enterprises (Chemistry, Refinery and Petrochemicals, Paper, Plastics, Cosmetics, Cleaning Products, Iron-Steel, Cement, Food, Pharmaceuticals, Textiles, Agriculture) and analysis, quality control, Research and Development laboratories of these enterprises. They can be employed in all state-affiliated public institutions, provided that they get sufficient base points in the Public Personnel Selection Examination.

Access to Further Studies

Graduates of the program can make the transition to the department of chemistry and biochemistry, department of chemical and environmental engineer of engineer faculty by Vertical Migration Test (VMT–DGS).

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading

Measurement and evaluation in the Chemical Technology Program is made with 1 midterm, 1 final and 1 make-up exam for each semester course. According to the content of the course, theoretical and practical hours, students are given project preparation assignments and experiments in laboratories, and applications of the theories of the courses are made. All exams are conducted face to face. Assessment and Evaluation can be done with Direct Evaluation System and Relative Evaluation System. There is a 70% attendance requirement for theoretical and applied courses and 80% for laboratory courses. In order for students to take courses from the next year, their 1st year ECTS must be higher than the threshold of 1.80 out of 4.00. In order for the students to graduate, they must be successful in all the courses of the 4 semesters and the Education-Based Education-1 and Education Based Education-2-compulsory internships, and their ECTS must be at least 2.00.

Graduation Requirements

In order to graduate from the program, students have to attend all of the courses, and also must be "successful". In addition students must be complete the 30 working days mandatory industry internship that needed for their training, and should be "successful" from internship exam. In the four semestr students must be successful 120 ECTS in total. Internships should be done at the end of the 1st and 2nd year in the fields related to chemical technology in the summer term. Students who are graduates and do not have attendance requirements can also do internships outside the summer term. 2. Internship cannot be done before the first year course credits are completed.

Facilities

Since the Chemical Technology Program was established with the support of the World Bank, it has equipment and laboratory facilities. The main equipment provided for the education of students in the laboratories: Oven, Muffle Furnace, Analytical Balance, Retractometer, Precision Balance, Centrifuge, Magnetic stirrer, UV Spectrophotometer, Rotary Evaporator, Heating Bath, Pycnometer, pH meter. It provides support for private sector business internships and technical trips.
