The mission of the PhD degree of Sociology, E..U. Institute of Social Sciences is to educate sociologists having fundamental knowledge about the concepts, theories, and practices of sociology, gaining sociological analysis skills on social issues, adopting scientific ethical codes, being conscious about life-long learning, having formation to produce knowledge. Also, it is of great importance to contribute to sociological accumulation of knowledge by producing scientific studies both on the social issues in our country and the world such as through thesis dissertations, research, projects by the educated human sources. The aim of the PhD program in the field of Sociology is educate students to make them have theoritical knowledge and methodological experience to do independent research through international standards. The vision of Ege University Institute of Social Sciences, "Sociology Master's Degree and Doctorate Program" includes in synthesizing national and international studies of sociology and scientific developments with education and dissertation process, making students have knowledge to be able to produce national and international research and projects , directing social studies that contain the social issues of our country and the world. Since the establishment of our department, voluminous graduates have been working in various Turkish universities in the departments of sociology or sociology-related offices as specialists, research assistants, associate professors, and professors.
The graduates having all the qualitifications of the programme earn the degree of "PhD in the department of Sociology."

PhD candidates are required to have basic score in ALES and YDS and equivalent exams defined by the administration. All the candidates have to pass PhD entrance exam conducted by the Institute of Social Sciences and the department.
Since the establishment of our department, voluminous graduates have been working in various Turkish universities in the departments of sociology or sociology-related offices as specialists, research assistants, associate professors, and professors. The aim of the programme is to educate qualified graduates who are to produce academic knowledge, participate in the scientific research and projects.
