General Description

The Advertising Department, located within the Faculty of Communication at Ege University, was established in April 2008, and it started admitting students to its undergraduate program in the academic year 2009-2010. The program aims to train personnel with the knowledge and equipment to carry out qualified communication activities in accordance with international standards, to contribute to the cultural economy on a global scale, and to meet the need for qualified personnel in the advertising sector. The undergraduate program in Advertising spans over four years (4 years, 8 semesters). Within the program, theoretical and practical studies are conducted to not only build students' theoretical foundations but also equip them with the creativity and capability to generate applicable projects.

Graduates who successfully complete the program are awarded a Bachelor's Degree in Advertising (first cycle in Advertising).

The general requirements explained in “General Admission Requirements” of Information on the Institution part are applied for admission of students.

The rules and regulations for recognition of formal prior learning are well defined. Transfer can be made among the institutions of which equivalency is recognized by Higher Education Council. Also successful vocational school graduates to continue their educaiton to obtain Bachelor’s degrees if they are successful in the selection and the placement examination (DGS, i.e. vertical transfer examination) are admitted. The courses to be taken by these students are determined by the relevant department, on the basis of courses they have completed in the programs from which they have graduated. Recognition of prior non-formal and in-formal learning is at the beginning stage in Turkish Higher Education Institutions. Ege University and hence of the Department is not an exception to this. However, exams of exemption are organised at the start of each year at the University for the courses of English Language and Computer Skills. The students who have completed the proficiencies for these courses on his/her own or through other means, and believe that they have achieved the learning outcomes specified are given the right to take the exemption exam. The students who achieve a passing grade from these exams are held exempt from the related course in the curriculum.

To be able to graduate, students need to complete all the courses equivalent to a total of 240 ECTS (European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System) credits available in the program, finish their final project, internships, and other related works, have no failing grades, and achieve a cumulative GPA (Grade Point Average) of 2.00 or above.

Advertising undergraduate program trains communication specialists who are equipped with knowledge, skills and attitudes to provide service i in various fields of the advertising industry, internalizing the ethical values, being conscious about the facts of the world and embracing the importance of lifelong learning. Within the program, students receive theoretical knowledge encompassing areas such as marketing, business, management, law, behavioral sciences, and more. Additionally, the program offers courses and practical applications that prepare students for the profession, including planning and preparation of original works, creative projects, and feasible campaigns. These courses cover various aspects of advertising, such as creative thinking, copywriting, media planning, advertising campaign execution, advertising photography, and more.

The undergraduate program in Advertising prepares students for the industry by equipping them with all the necessary technical and theoretical knowledge in the field of communication, fundamental information that can be utilized in advertising and promotional activities, and practical experience. As versatile, well-trained, effective, and knowledgeable graduates of the advertising department, they will be able to meet the industry's needs and take on various positions. In this regard, program graduates will be able to apply for various positions meeting the requirements of the industry, both in public institutions through the Public Personnel Selection Examination (KPSS) and in private sector companies that conduct communication activities. They will be qualified to fulfill the human resources needs of companies engaged in communication and advertising-related roles. Our graduates can work in various positions within advertising agencies' customer relations departments as account representatives, strategic planning departments as brand and advertising strategists, creative departments as copywriters, and social media departments as content creators. They can also find opportunities in private companies' corporate communication and brand management departments, where they can take on different roles.

The graduates holding Bachelor’s Degree are eligible to apply to Master’s Degree programmes at national level and /or international level both in the same and in related disciplines.

The type of assessment and evaluation used for each course is defined in the “Course Instruction Plan” in details.

To graduate from the program, students need to fulfill several requirements: Successfully pass all compulsory and elective courses in the curriculum. Complete a total of 240 ECTS (European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System) credits. Fulfill the mandatory internship requirements. Successfully complete the graduation project. Attain a minimum GPA of 2.00 (Grade Point Average).
