General Description

The mission of the M.A. degree of Sociology, E..U. Institute of Social Sciences is to educate sociologists having fundamental knowledge about the concepts, theories, and practices of sociology, gaining sociological analysis skills on social issues, adopting scientific ethical codes, being conscious about life-long learning, having formation to produce knowledge. Also, it is of great importance to contribute to sociological accumulation of knowledge by producing scientific studies both on the social issues in our country and the world such as through thesis dissertations, research, projects by the educated human sources. The vision of the M.A. degree of Sociology, E..U. Institute of Social Sciences includes in synthesizing national and international studies of sociology and scientific developments with education and dissertation process, making students have knowledge to be able to produce national and international research and projects , directing social studies that contain the social issues of our country and the world. Since the establishment of our department, voluminous graduates have been working in various Turkish universities in the departments of sociology or sociology-related offices as specialists, research assistants, associate professors, and professors.

The graduates having all the qualitifications of the programme earn the degree of "M. A. in the department of Sociology."

Master's Degree

The admission process for the programme can be found in the "About Ege University" under the subtitle "General Admission Requirements."

The graduate transfer students could be exempted from some courses. The Institute of Social Sciences and Social Academic Board are entitled. The regulations of English proficency are defined as prerequisite in advance.

Students must succeed at the courses in the programme by having all the defined credits. CREDITS During courses: * Number of required courses: 8 (4 for Fall and 4 for Spring) * Required Total Course Credits: (Local Credit (Hour)): 12 (12 for Fall and 9 for Spring) * Required Total Course Credits: (ECTS): 60 (30 for Fall and 30 for Spring) During thesis research: * Present course credits: Lecture on Specialized Field course 4 (Ects) each term, Thesis research 26 (Ects). (No local credits (class hours) during thesis research). Students are expected to defense their thesis research and succeed it to be graduated.

Since the establishment of our department, voluminous graduates have been working in various Turkish universities in the departments of sociology or sociology-related offices as specialists, research assistants, associate professors, and professors. The aim of the programme is to educate qualified graduates who are to produce academic knowledge, participate in the scientific research and projects. Thus, It is of great importance to educate graduates who are capable of enroling PhD programmes by having research abilities and qualifications to raise social benefit.

Since the establishment of our department, voluminous graduates have been working in various Turkish universities in the departments of sociology or sociology-related offices as specialists, research assistants, associate professors, and professors.

Provided that graduates pass ALES and have knowledge of English, they might earn PhD degrees in related fields.

Examination regulations, assessment, and grading procedures are defined in "course syllabus" in details.

The following are must: taking all the required credits and succeeding in the courses, writing a thesis dissertation and defensing and succeeding it.

1 professor, 2 associate professors, 1 assistant professor,1 instructor dr. are affiliated in the department. Although overwhelmingly theoretical education is provided, students can find opportunities in gain experience through study in resaearch projects of the staff. Meanwhile, students can do internship in private or public institutions, depending on their wills. They can complete a part of their education in any European university through LLP/Erasmus Programme.

7 To be able to practice knowledge and skills during intra and interdisciplinary group work activities
8 To be able to have awareness of professional ethics in the field
9 To be able to evaluate the contributions of analyzing and interpreting social issues in the global and local environment as a sociologist
10 To be able to have the responsibilities and skills to follow social issues at global and local level
11 To be able to collect data about any social problem, analyze the data and interpret them
12 To be able to analyze a social issue on the basis of a determined goal, and to analyze and design it in accordance with the selected theoretical framework and research methods
13 To be able to identify, model and analyze social cases and issues by having the knowledge of the basic concepts and theories of Sociology
14 To be able to have the potential and ability of producing knowledge in the fields of Sociology and other social sciences
