The rules for recognition of formal prior learning are well defined. A student who is currently enrolled in a Master's Degree programme in the same discipline at another institution and has successfully completed at least one semester, upon submitting all required documents before the deadline, may transfer to the Master's Programme at EGE University upon the recommendation of the department administration and with the approval of the Administrative Committee of the Graduate School. The decision taken will also include eligibility for exemption from some course requirements of the graduate program. Students who transfer from another university must be successful in the EGE University English Proficiency Exam or in an equivalent English examination. Recognition of prior non-formal and in-formal learning is at the beginning stage in Turkish Higher Education Institutions. Ege University is not an exception to this.
Successful students who have completed at least one semester in another department of the same institute at the university or in a graduate program affiliated with another higher education institution's equivalent institute can be accepted to graduate programs through horizontal transfer. In order for a student to be accepted for a transfer application, a minimum grade point average of 75 from the courses he / she enrolled until the application date, the compatibility between the current graduate education program and the program he / she wants to pass, in terms of courses and entry requirements, he will be able to undertake thesis advisory in the relevant department, faculty members and infrastructure must be available. A student who wants to transfer to a graduate program of the university; Applies to the relevant institute directorate at least three weeks before the start date of the next semester education by attaching the documents describing the current curriculum and indicating the success of the courses he is enrolled in. In case of enrollment in a graduate program at the university, which will be counted among the minimum course load is determined by the recommendation of the advisor and the relevant Department Board and the approval of the Graduate School Administrative Board. The recognition of certificates based or experience-based learning process in Turkey is at an early stage. For this reason, recognition of prior learning has not been fully initiated in all programs of Ege University.
The aim of the master's program with thesis is; to enable the student to gain the competence to access, evaluate and interpret information by doing scientific research. This program consists of a total of at least 120 ECTS credits, including at least 7 courses, seminar course, specialist field course and thesis study, not less than 21 credits. Seminar course and thesis work without credit are evaluated as successful or unsuccessful. Students can select at most two undergraduate courses which they have not been taken during undergraduate study. Students can register other higher education institutions courses by the recommendation of the student advisor, with the decision of the department / department board and the approval of the institute board of directors. Students can select at most two courses from other higher education institutions courses with the approval of the institute board. Upon the decision of the Council of Higher Education (YÖK), graduate distance education programs in which teaching activities are planned and carried out based on information and communication technologies can be opened without the obligation of teaching staff and students to be in the same place. The areas where distance education programs can be opened, courses to be given through distance education, credits and ECTS credits, preparation of course materials, the way of taking exams, protocols to be made between higher education institutions for this purpose and other issues regarding distance education are determined by YÖK. The graduate thesis exam consists of the presentation of the thesis study and the following question and answer section. The duration of the graduate thesis exam is minimum 45 and maximum 90 minutes. The graduate thesis exam is held open to the participation of the audience consisting of academic staff, graduate students and experts in the field. After the completion of the thesis exam, the jury makes the decision of acceptance, rejection or correction by absolute majority and determines this situation with a report. The jury report and the personal reports of the jury members regarding the thesis are notified to the relevant institute within two working days following the thesis exam by the head of the institute department / department. The student whose thesis must be corrected, defends it again in front of the same jury within three months at the latest. At the end of this defense, the student, whose thesis is not accepted, is dismissed from the University. If the student whose thesis is rejected, he / she is awarded a master's degree without thesis, provided that he / she has fulfilled the requirements of the non-thesis master's program, course credit load, project writing and similar requirements.
As explained in the Qualification Requirements and Regulations section, there are compulsory and elective courses in the program. “Engineering Mathematics”, “Mechatronics Systems” and “Scientific Research and Publication Ethics” courses are compulsory in the curriculum. Considering the thesis work to be carried out by the student, the student takes elective courses with the recommendation of his / her advisor. Thesis studies can be designed to offer a solution based on a problem encountered in the industry, as well as based on technological developments, trends and innovative approaches.
Our graduates who have a master's degree work as engineers in industry, public institutions and organizations, and academicians at universities.
Graduates who successfully completed the Master's Degree may apply to doctorate (third cycle) programmes in the same or in related disciplines.
In order for a student to take the exam for a course in which she/he is registered, he/she must attend at least 70% of that course and at least 80% of the applications. Students are required to take a mid-term examination and/or complete other assigned projects/ homework during the semester and, additionally, are required to take a final examination and/or complete a final project for course evaluation. The final grade is based on the mid-term examination grade, the final examination grade and/or evaluation of final project, with the contributions of 40% and 60%, respectively. To pass any course, a Master's student must receive at least 2.00 out of 4.00 ( at least 70 out of 100). Students must repeat courses they have failed or may substitute courses the Department accepts as equivalent. The assessment for each course is described in detail in “Individual Course Description”.
