The School of Fashion and Design was established in 2011. Prof.Dr. Ziynet Öndoğan is founding director of school of Fashion and Design. Also, the Department of Fashion Design was established in 2018. The department received its first students in the 2019-2020 Academic Year and started its education life. In the world, Fashion Design education has been given as a separate education for approximately 180 years at faculty or college level (London College of Fashion in England, Lim College and Parsons School of Design in USA, Istituto Marangoni in Italy, etc.). In Turkey all Fashion and Design departments is located as a department of college or faculties in universities. Unlike other universities in Turkey, Ege University School of Fashion and Design is creating innovative and functional approach for our university and our country with it's training. Therefore, Ege University School of Fashion and Design provides many advantages to its graduates in terms of sector requirements compared to other Fashion Design departments. Our school's academic staff includes 1 Professor Doctor, 6 Assistant Professor and 1 Lecturer. The education language of the department is Turkish. The education language of department is Turkish. The Department of Fashion Design accept of students according to the Equal Weight score in the university exam. The aim of the department is to train of fashion designers who can make, produce and sell original designs. Also, one of the main targets of the department is to enable students to prepare their design works in a way that they can be transformed into commercial collections. The vision of the department; to realize the cooperation of science and art, to create educational quality which have creative and innovative approaches, to become an international educational institution in the field of fashion and design.

The Department of Fashion Design offers undergraduate education. Graduates have “Bachelor" degree diploma. If our graduates wish graduate education they can do it with their Fashion Designer bachelor diplomas.
Placement is made according to the University Exam and Equal Weight Score. The department student quota is 40. At Ege University, admissions procedures are carried out by the Registrar's Office, and information on regulations and directives can be found at http://oidb.ege.edu.tr.
Recognition of previous formal learning in Turkish Higher Education institutions and for students who want to transfer vertically, horizontally and within the university from higher education institutions in Turkey and abroad, "Transition between Associate Degree and Undergraduate Degree Programs in Higher Education Institutions, Double Major, Minor and Interinstitutional Credits" The provisions of the “Regulation on the Principles of Transfer” are applied. Recognition of prior non-formal and in-formal learning is at the beginning stage in Turkish Higher Education Institutions. Ege University and hence of the Department is not an exception to this. However, exams of exemption are organised at the start of each year at the University for the courses of English Language and Computer Skills. The students who have completed the proficiencies for these courses on his/her own or through other means, and believe that they have achieved the learning outcomes specified are given the right to take the exemption exam. The students who achieve a passing grade from these exams are held exempt from the related course in the curriculum. Transfers can be made between diploma programs of different higher education institutions or diploma programs within the same higher education institution, but within the framework of the previously announced number and transition conditions. The criteria to be used in the evaluation of lateral transfer applications and the minimum conditions required for lateral transfer are determined by the Ege University Senate.
Successfully completing all the courses in the department's education plan (total of 240 ECTS) and having a weighted grade point average of at least 2.00 out of 4.00 are the qualification requirements for graduation.
Fashion design is a developing field in line with the needs of the developments in fashion production and management technologies as well as the developments in the fashion sector. In the fashion and apparel industry, design has the highest level of importance in the field of international competition. This development means an increase in the need for information and personnel in model design and presentation of the product with various promotional and advertising tools. For this reason, fashion design education has gained an indispensable place in the international academic and sectoral world. Education plan in Fashion Design Department; Ege University supports the target of 2018-2023 Strategic Plan A2: "Continuing education activities at national and international standards", H 2.1: "Improving the quality of education programs and increasing the quantity". The education plan of our department was formed by the synthesis of the curriculum of the departments that provide similar education at the national and international level, the demands and suggestions of the non-governmental organizations and sector members. With the applied training plan, they can analyze the target audience by evaluating the leading ideas that can create fashion, know the materials and production techniques, have technical, aesthetic, knowledge and skills in weaving-knitted surface design, pattern design, print design and garment design, and can create contemporary, creative and original designs. and to train fashion designers who can produce. One of the main objectives of the department is to ensure that the students of the Fashion Design Department prepare their creative works in the field of fashion design in a way that can be transformed into viable commercial collections. It is thought that our students, who receive education in line with these goals, will contribute to the achievement of the main goal of our country being one of the leading countries that direct the value chain with a focus on fashion design and branding in the textile and apparel sector, as targeted in the 11th Development Plan. At the Fashion Design Department, our students do 20 working days of industrial internship at the end of the 6th semester. In addition, in the 7th semester of our training plan, "Vocational Training at Work" is included. It is aimed that the students of the Department of Vocational Education and Fashion Design in the Workplace will spend their 7th semester in the relevant businesses and strengthen their application skills. In the Fashion Design Department, our students can participate in undergraduate and graduate student exchange programs within the scope of the Erasmus+ program.
In the fashion and apparel industry, design has the highest importance in the field of international competition. This situation also needs qualified person who has design ability and experienced. Because of that reason fashion design education is so important in the international academic and private sector world. Our graduates; – As a designer in the fashion houses – As a fashion designer in the design, product development, modeling, export, marketing, brand management and customer relations departments of garment companies In the design departments of Print Workshops – In departments of product and costume designs in the relevant ministries – As an academician in related departments of universities – As a visual presentation and design specialist in stores – As a fashion editor in fashion magazines – In the fashion photography studios – As a trend, image and style consultant in related sectors – As a Costume and accessory designer in the theater, cinema and television sectors and – Will be able to work in their own businesses by creating their own brands.
Graduates of the department can do postgraduate education in their own fields or related departments if they wish. However, in order to graduate, the diploma grades must be above the grade determined by the Institute.
Exams, measurement and evaluation in the department; It is carried out according to the principles of "Ege University Measurement and Evaluation Principles Directive". Information on regulations and directives can be found at http://oidb.ege.edu.tr.
In order to graduate from the department, students have to attend all of the courses, and also must be “successful”. In addition students at the end of 6th semester, must be complete the “20” working days mandatory industry internship that needed for their training, and should be "successful" from internship exam. Students who successfully completed all the courses and internships at the end of eight “8” semesters are entitled to get a diploma.
