Advertising PhD Program which works as a part of Ege University, Institute of Social Sciences, Department Of Advertising, started receiving students in 2007. With this program, it is aimed to train academicians and communication specialists who are able to produce scientific studies on the field of advertising, to reach new information by interpreting the scientific cases and to contribute to the theoretical background. Advertising PhD Program can be completed with two years of course training for those who has bachelor’s degree and get into the doctorate program, and one year of course training for those who has a master’s degree and get into the doctorate program, followed by the jury’s approval of the thesis prepared by the student on a related field. In the context of the program it is ensured that the students gain qualifications to execute the scientific researches and studies on the field of advertising, and to produce knowledge in international standards by synthesizing academic sources.
The Doctorate`s Degree in Advertising awarded to the graduates who have successfully full filled all programme requirements.

Third Cycle (Doctoral) Degree
(1) Second Cycle (Master's) Degree diploma with thesis (2) A minimum ALES score of 60 or equivalent international examinations scores for graduate-level programmes such as GRE, GMAT, etc., recognised by YÖK. (3) A minimum score of 55 in accepted foreign language proficiency exam such as YDS/Yökdil or a TOEFL score equivalent to YDS/Yökdil score of 55, or at least 70 out of 100 from the Profiency Exam conducted by Ege University Foreign Language Department. The candidates holding Bachelor's or Master's Degree taught totally in English are exempted from English proficiency requirement. Candidates gain Access to the programmes based on their composite scores consisting of Second Cycle Degree grade point averages, ALES and interview exam. For International Students: Second Cycle Degree diploma with thesis obtained from universities recognised by YÖK. Candidates gain Access to the programmes based on their second cycle degree grade point averages. Final acceptance is based on the evaluation of the related academic unit committee.
The rules for recognition of formal prior learning are well defined. A student who is currently enrolled in a Doctorate Degree programme in the same discipline at another institution and has successfully completed at least one semester, upon submitting all required documents before the deadline, may transfer to the Doctorate Programme at EGE University upon the recommendation of the department administration and with the approval of the Administrative Committee of the Graduate School. The decision taken will also include eligibility for exemption from some course requirements of the graduate program. Students who transfer from another university must be successful in the EGE University English Proficiency Exam or in an equivalent English examination. Recognition of prior non-formal and in-formal learning is at the beginning stage in Turkish Higher Education Institutions. Ege University is not an exception to this.
Students who have been accepted with a master's degree are required to take at least 240 ECTS credits, including at least nine courses equal to not less than twenty-one credits, one seminar, a qualifying exam, thesis proposal and thesis work. After successfully completing coursework students should take and pass a qualifying exam. Students who fail the qualifying exam may retake it one more time the following semester. Failing twice will result in the student being dismissed from the program. Students who pass their qualifying exams should form a thesis monitoring committee which includes three faculty members. Following the appointment of this committee, students must defend their thesis proposal and after the approval of the proposal they are required to write and defend a doctoral dissertation to graduate. Students should present their progress to the thesis monitoring committee every six mounts. Failing or missing two of these presentations will result in the student being dismissed from the program.
Advertising PhD program trains academicians and communication specialists who, - Carry out activities about research and education on communication and especially the field of advertising, - Are in tandem with similar people and institutions at a national and international level, - Research independently and produce scientific knowledge in accordance with the international standards, - Examine and interpret the scientific cases with a wide and deep point of view, - Gained the ability to determine the necessary steps to reach the new synthesis , - Contribute to the theoretical knowledge on the field of advertising on an interdisciplinary understanding basis.
The students who accomplish the Advertising department PhD program will be able to take charge in academic positions on the fields that they received education or in institutions and organizations which gives opportunity to actualize the theoretical knowledge they have in advertising sector.
Graduates can apply postdoctoral programs.
