The department of special education has been training since 2016.

Specific Admission Requirements

Programa student admission is explained in detail under the heading "Student Admission" in "About Ege University". It is advised that students who want to study under the Erasmus or Mevlana mobility programs in Ege University Faculty of Education should carefully read the following explanation before choosing courses from their training plans.

Specific Arrangements For Recognition Of Prior Learning (Formal, Non-Formal and Informal)

Recognition of the previous formal student at the Turkish Higher Education Institutions, vertical, horizontal and in the university, the Higher Education Council has determined that the "Higher Education Fundamentals of Transition Between Pre- and Post-Secondary Programs, Double-Mastered, Side-Loan and Row-to-Graduate Credit Transfers" REGULATION ". The recognition process of non-formal certification or experiential (non-formal and informal) learning outside of formal education institutions in Turkey is still at an early stage. For this reason, recognition of the previous student in all of Ege University`s programs has not been fully started. However, exams are held at the beginning of each academic term for courses such as Computer and English, German which are included in the curriculum of the programs. Students who think they provide the qualifications expected from these courses have the right to take the exams. Students who enter and succeed in the examination are exempted from the relevant courses in the course schedule.

Qualification Requirements and Regulations

Successful completion of all of the courses available in the program (totaling 240 ECTS) and having a weighted GPA of at least 2.00 out of 4.00 is a necessary qualification for graduation.

Profile of The Programme

The aim of this program is to train teachers equipped with theoretical and practical knowledge and skills aimed at ensuring that the individuals who need special education are active and productive in independent and social life like other individuals. The program contributes to the important academic activities related to the learning characteristics of mentally disabled individuals, teaching-learning environments, new method techniques and evaluation of learning-teaching processes.

Occupational Profiles of Graduates With Examples

Mental retardation education program graduates are employed in Special Education and Rehabilitation Centers, which are opened by Private Education Schools and Ministry of National Education.

Access to Further Studies

Candidates who have successfully completed their undergraduate studies can study at the undergraduate programs in their own field or in related fields, provided they have a valid grade in the ALES exam and have sufficient knowledge of English language.

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading

For must and elective courses, mid-term exams are held during the ninth week of the semester. Midterm exam grades constitute forty percent of students` grades on the grade. In addition, final exams are applied to students at the end of the semester. As a prerequisite to success, Dersten must score at least 60 or higher on the final exam, otherwise the student will be absent regardless of the visa grades. The final exam grades of the students who are successful in the final exam constitute sixty percent of the achievement grades. Assessment of courses that do not have a mid-term and final exam such as an internship is made by evaluating the work that the student has done during the semester by the teaching staff.

Facilities

There is an associate professor and two assistant professors in the Special Education Department. There are 25 classrooms in Ege University Faculty of Education classrooms. It is also possible to use the facilities of the central library in the campus.
