With the decision of the Executive Board of the Council of Higher Education (YÖK) dated 24.06.2021, it was approved to establish a Vaccine Studies Department under Ege University Health Sciences Institute and to open a Vaccine Studies Master's program with thesis. After the establishment of the Department, Prof.Dr. A.Yüksel GÜRÜZ has been appointed as the Head of the Vaccine Studies Department of the Institute of Health Sciences in accordance with Article 5/d of the Regulation on the Organization and Operation of Graduate Education and Training Institutes. Our program, which receives its first students in the 2021-2022 Spring Semester, is a multidisciplinary program and has started its educational activities with 17 Faculty Members from different disciplines. The program is actively carried out at Ege University Vaccine Development Application and Research Center Medical Faculty Laboratories located in our Faculty of Medicine campus.
Students who successfully complete all the lessons in the master's education plan and successfully defend their thesis on Vaccination Studies receive their master's degrees in the field of "Vaccination Studies".

To have completed a 4-year undergraduate education in at least one of the graduates of the Faculty of Medicine, Veterinary, Pharmacy, Nursing, Science, Engineering and Health Sciences
Successful students who have completed at least one semester in another department of the same institute at the university or in a graduate program affiliated with an equivalent institute of another higher education institution can be admitted to graduate programs through horizontal transfer. In order for a student's lateral transfer application to be accepted, a weighted grade point average of at least 75 from the courses he has registered until the application date, a compatibility between the graduate education program he is currently continuing and the program he wants to transfer in terms of courses and entry conditions, Faculty members and infrastructure facilities should be available. A student who wishes to transfer to a graduate program of the university; He/she applies to the relevant institute directorate at least three weeks before the start of the next semester's education by attaching the documents that introduce the education program he/she is attending and the success status of the courses he/she is enrolled in to his/her petition. Director of the institution; It sends the application documents to the relevant department or the head of the main art branch and asks for the opinion of the department and, if this opinion is positive, the names of the courses that the student must take in order to adapt to the program. The opinions and suggestions of the department are examined by the Graduate School Administrative Board and it is decided whether the student's request for lateral transfer is appropriate or not before the start of the education. The courses taken by the student while enrolled in the graduate program of another university, in case of enrolling in a graduate program at the University, which will be counted as the minimum course load are determined by the recommendation of the advisor and the relevant Department Board and the approval of the Graduate School Administrative Board. In Turkey, the recognition process of non-formal certificate-based or experience-based (in-formal and non-formal) learning is still in its infancy, except for formal education institutions. Therefore, the recognition of prior learning has not been fully initiated in all programs of Ege University.
The program consists of at least seven courses, a seminar course and thesis, with a total of not less than 21 local credits. The graduate education program consists of compulsory and elective courses. The total ECTS credits of the program is 120. The student can re-register for the courses he/she has failed, as well as take other graduate courses approved by his/her advisor. In addition, the courses can be chosen from the courses offered in other higher education institutions with the recommendation of the advisor and the related institute department chair and the approval of the Institute Administrative Board, or they can be selected from the doctoral program courses if the advisor deems it appropriate and necessary. The institute determines how much of the courses taken from other higher education institutions can be counted as a minimum of 21 credits, provided that they do not exceed nine credits. Seminar course and thesis work are non-credit according to the local credit system and are evaluated as successful or unsuccessful. The student has to register for the thesis study every semester, starting from the beginning of the third semester at the latest. A student in a master's program with thesis has to write the results of his thesis in accordance with the thesis writing rules of the relevant institute and defend his thesis orally in front of the jury. After the thesis exam is completed, the jury decides to accept, reject or correct the thesis with absolute majority. The student, whose thesis is decided to be corrected, defends his thesis again in front of the same jury by doing the necessary within three months at the latest. At the end of this defense, the registration of the student whose thesis is not accepted will be deleted.
Vaccine Studies Master's program is a multi-disciplinary program. Program; It includes the fields of medicine, pharmacy, veterinary medicine, biology and psychology.The aim of the program is to establish the scientific and technological infrastructure and manpower to develop vaccine studies in our country. The program includes elective and compulsory courses.
Vaccine Studies Master's Program with Thesis has been designed in line with the qualified manpower and society objectives included in the National Development Plan, and with the aim of contributing to the regional, country and world economy by developing the research environment of EU, which is within the objectives of the Ege University strategic plan, and prepared in accordance with national and international standards. is a program. Those who complete the program can work in industrial fields and public institutions for vaccine development, and they can also pursue an academic career.
Those who graduate from this program will be able to apply to many doctoral programs such as the Institute of Health Sciences Pharmaceutical Biotechnology Doctorate Program, the Graduate School of Sciences, the Doctorate Programs of the Biology Department, and the Biotechnology Doctorate Program of the Graduate School of Sciences. In addition, during the continuation of the first students of the Vaccine Studies Master's Program with thesis, an application will be made to YÖK, with the approval of our University's Senate, for the opening of the Vaccine Studies Doctorate Program.
In addition to midterm and final exams, learning activities such as reports, assignments, quizzes, seminar presentations and project work can be used in the performance evaluation of the student The student has to register for the thesis study every semester, starting from the beginning of the third semester at the latest. Vaccine Studies Master's program is carried out with the infrastructure facilities of Ege University Vaccine Development Application and Research Center Faculty of Medicine Laboratories as well as Ege University Faculty of Pharmacy, Department of Pharmaceutical Biotechnology. Our laboratories have a device infrastructure that can be used in vaccine research and development studies against infectious agents such as viruses and parasites, as well as against cancer. Animal studies are carried out at Ege University Drug Development and Pharmacokinetic Research Application Center (ARGEFAR) Experimental Animal Laboratory and EGEHAYMER Laboratory Animals Application and Research Center within Ege University. The first clinical trial (phase 1/first in man/clinical trial) phase of a vaccine that can be developed within the center will be carried out in the phase clinic of Ege University Drug Development and Pharmacokinetic Research Application Center (ARGEFAR). In addition, there are working and resting areas that graduate students can use in their educational activities.
