General Description

The Department of Civil Engineering at Ege University was established to educate qualified civil engineers needed by the country. The department conducts education, research, and practical studies in the main fields of civil engineering such as structural engineering, geotechnical engineering, hydraulics, transportation, construction management, and construction materials. The curriculum is continuously improved to integrate modern engineering approaches, sustainability principles, ethical values, and practical skills.

The Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering (second cycle in Civil Engineering) is awarded to the graduates who have successfully fulfilled all programme requirements.

The quotas for students to be admitted to the master's program, the required documents for application, the exam to be held and its date, as well as other conditions, are determined in accordance with the relevant article provisions of the Ege University Graduate Education and Training Regulation. The quotas and, if any, special conditions are determined by the Departments and announced on the Graduate School of Science website after approval by our University Senate.

Student admissions through lateral transfer are determined and implemented in accordance with the relevant article provisions of the Ege University Graduate Education Regulation

For the Master's Program, according to the relevant provisions of the Ege University Graduate Education Regulations students must successfully complete all requirements in the curriculum and fulfill the other graduation conditions separately determined by the Senate for each graduate institute.

The programme has six brances; construction, hydraulics, geotechnics, materials of construction and construction management. Under the supervision of their supervisor, the students enroll the compulsory and elective courses of relevant discipline, finalise and defend their thesis.

Graduates may work in public institutions, private sector companies, engineering consultancy firms, contractors, and research organizations. They can take roles in infrastructure, superstructure, transportation, water resources, dams, coastal structures, earthquake engineering, and construction site management. Graduates may pursue careers as project engineers, site engineers, control engineers, design engineers, consultant engineers, and academicians.

Graduates who successfully completed the Master's Degree may apply to doctorate (third cycle) programmes in the same or in related disciplines.

Regarding exams and passing grades, the Regulation on Graduate Education and Training at Ege University and the Ege University Assessment and Evaluation Principles Directive are applied. Course evaluation criteria are defined by the instructor(s) of the course and are provided in the Course Description Form included in the course information package.

The completion of the master's thesis is determined and implemented in accordance with the relevant article provisions of the Regulation on Graduate Education and Training at Ege University.

The department has structural engineering, geotechnical, hydraulics, transportation, and computer laboratories. Students gain practical experience through technical visits, laboratory applications, research projects, and collaborations with industry. In addition, the university library, digital databases, and research infrastructure are available for student use.


Key Learning Outcomes

1 To be able to conduct research in the chosen field, to create experimental designs, to carry out the experiments their designed, to collect and analyze data, to interpret the results and to develop research based on solution offers.
2 Ability to contact with verbal and written communication at least one foreign language, gaining knowledge and skills to use foreign publications in their studies or homework
3 To have the ability to work interdisciplinary and to adapt the theories, methods and applications in different fields to the related scope.
4 Necessity of lifelong learning and being able to realize it

6 Based on their qualifications at undergraduate level, developing and deepening their knowledge in a field of engineering at the level of expertise.
