History

Our department which has approximately 300 students and accepts students for its undergraduate programs has been continuing its education since 1998.

Qualification Awarded

The Bachelor`s Degree in Computer Teaching (first cycle in Computer Teaching) is awarded to students who have succesfully completed all courses in the curriculum, including a 2-semester school training period.

The general requirements explained in “General Admission Requirements” of Information on the Institution part are applied for admission of students. The students who would like to study in Faculty of Education of Ege University in the context of Erasmus and Mevlana mobility programmes should carefully read the following instruction before they choose the courses in course structure diagrams of the programmes. Specific Arrangements For Recognition Of Prior Learning (Formal, Non-Formal and Informal)

The rules and regulations for recognition of formal prior learning are well defined. Transfer can be made among the institutions of which equivalency is recognized by Higher Education Council. Also successful vocational school graduates to continue their educaiton to obtain Bachelor’s degrees if they are successful in the selection and the placement examination (DGS, i.e. vertical transfer examination) are admitted. The courses to be taken by these students are determined by the relevant department, on the basis of courses they have completed in the programs from which they have graduated. Recognition of prior non-formal and in-formal learning is at the beginning stage in Turkish Higher Education Institutions. Ege University and hence of the Department is not an exception to this. However, exams of exemption are organised at the start of each year at the University for the courses of English Language and Computer Skills. The students who have completed the proficiencies for these courses on his/her own or through other means, and believe that they have achieved the learning outcomes specified are given the right to take the exemption exam. The students who achieve a passing grade from these exams are held exempt from the related course in the curriculum.

Qualification Requirements and Regulations

Students must obtain a grade point average of at least 2.00 out of 4.00 and successfully pass all courses on the programme (equivalent to a total of 240 ECTS).

Profile of The Programme

The program is designed to promote personal and professional growth through both education and computer. The first year of courses mainly consists of Turkish, mathematics, basic computer and educational courses to bring to knowledge level of students with different backgrounds to same level. In addition to this, the students must take school training in the first semester. The compulsory and elective courses offered in second, third and fourth years include physics, programming languages, operating systems and their use, database systems, multimedia systems, authoring language, development and evaluation of educational software, distance education, material development and instructional technologies, instructional materials in education, fundamentals of computer assisted instruction, instructional design, developments and learning, research methods, instructional methods, classroom management, guidance and diploma project. Students spend totally 2 semesters (7th and 8th) in different school as a trainee teacher.

Access to Further Studies

The graduates holding Bachelor’s Degree are eligible to apply to Master’s Degree programmes at national level and /or international level both in the same and in related disciplines.

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading

A two-step examination procedure is applied for the Computer and Instructional Technologies undergraduate program. For the both required and elective courses a midterm examination is applied in the ninth week of the semester. Forty percent of the midterm exam score is added to overall evaluation grade of the courses. In addition, final exams are compacted and given to the students at the end of the semester. As a core condition, students must get a 60 or higher scores to get a satisfactory grade from the courses; otherwise, they would fail the course regardless of their midterm examination scores. If the students get a satisfactory score on final exam, 60 percent of the final exam score is added to overall grade of course evaluation. Evaluation of the courses such as practicum which do not require midterm and final examinations are made by the instructor based on the works done throughout the semester.

Facilities

There are 3 laboratories with a total of 110 computers for computer applied courses. Also, there is a student laboratory for free use at designated times.
