General Description

Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences of Ege University (E.U.F.E.A.S.) was founded on July 3, 1992. The Faculty comprises three departments: Department of Business Administration, Department of Economics and Department of International Relations. The undergraduate formal education started in the Faculty, as well as in the Department of International Relations, in the Academic Year of 1994/1995. With the start of Academic Year 2000/2001, formal education was also incorporated with the Evening Education.

The Bachelor`s Degree in International Relations ( first cycle in International Relations) is awarded to the graduates who have successfully completed all courses in the curriculum

The general requirements explained in “General Admission Requirements” of Information on the Institution part are applied for admission of students.

The terms about general arrangements for recognition of prior learning is explained under the title of “General Arrangements for Recognition of Prior Learning” in Ege University Information Package (http://ebys.ege.edu.tr/ogrenci/ebp/general-arrangements.htm).

Students must obtain a grade point average of at least 2.00 out of 4.00 and successfully pass all courses on the programme (equivalent to a total of 240 ECTS).

The principal aim of the International Relations undergraduate program at Ege University is to get our students equipped with, within the broader framework of International Relations discipline and social sciences, the necessary knowledge and skills in their careers after graduating and to get them acquire critical and analytical thinking and problem solving skills. Our undergraduate program in our department with three main subdivisions such as International Politics, Political History and International Law is organized for this purpose. Our students are able to get a solid background in the discipline of international relations through such core courses as Theories of International Relations, Political History, International Organizations, International Law and Foreign Policy Analysis etc. Besides these compulsory courses, a wide range of elective courses both on International Relations and on other fields of social sciences help our students to make meaningful choices about their careers and earn necessary knowledge and skills proper for their career choices. The objective of this program is not only to prepare our students to be able to take up such positions as experts, researchers, managers and bureaucrats in the public and private sector but also to help them to be successful in all areas of social life by contributing to their personal development as responsible and self-confident individuals and by developing their critical and analytical thinking and problem solving skills. We believe that our program provides our graduates with the necessary knowledge, skills and self-confidence in their areas of expertise to be able to comprehend the terms of contemporary era and to cope with the challenges it poses.

Our graduates are able to take up various jobs both in the private and the public sector. They also can undertake academic careers by pursuing postgraduate degrees.

The graduates holding Bachelor’s Degree are eligible to apply to Master’s Degree programmes at national level and /or international level both in the same and in related disciplines. For admission to Master's Degree programmes, our graduates are required to provide a valid score of ALES and of any language test which is accepted by the applied HEI. Different application procedures might differ depending on the applied HEI.

The measurement and evaluation of a course is made based on mid-term exam, other within semester course educational activities if any, final exam and make-up exam if it exists. The contribution percentage of within semester educational activities and final examination to final grade is determined by the instructor prior to the registration week and announced to the students in the first week of the semester. The contribution percentage of within semester activities is supposed to be between 40%-70 and contribution percentage of final and make-up exams are supposed to be between 60%-30. Department students can take part in all of the social, cultural, sports facilities and club activities that are provided by Ege University Rectorate. Information about these facilities are given in detail under the title of General Information for Students in Ege Information Package (http://ebys.ege.edu.tr/ogrenci/ebp/info-students.htm). Besides, in our department there are various clubs which are related to International Relations. Students can take a part in the activities of these clubs in the light of their area of interest. By means of symposiums and congresses in various topics, speakers that are invited to our faculty, and internships; students have the chance of chasing the developments in practice as well as in theory. Furthermore students have also the chance to be members of faculty teams in sports branches like football, basketball, volleyball etc.

1 To be able to gain advanced conceptual, theoretical and practical knowledge based on current issues and scientific resources in the discipline of International Relations (IR) and its sub-fields (International Relations, Political History, International Economic Integrations, International Law, Political Science),
2 To be able to make use of the theoretical and practical knowledge gained in the discipline of International Relations (IR),
3 To be able to examine concepts, facts, issues and ideas using scientific methods; and to be able to interpret and critically evaluate data in the discipline of International Relations (IR),
4 To be able to take responsibility either individually or as part of a group to solve complex problems, which might be faced with, whilst theoretical analysis or implementation,
5 To be able to assess critically knowledge and skills gained in the discipline of International Relations (IR); to be able to determine learning requirements and to guide the learning process,
6 To be able to inform individuals and institutions in the discipline of International Relations (IR); and to be able to present her/his ideas and proposals both in writing and orally,
7 To be able to make use of English to pursue knowledge and scientific resources in the discipline of International Relations (IR),
8 To have necessary knowledge of computer software and hardware at the required level for International Relations (IR); to be able to make use of information and communication technologies,
9 To have a belief in the importance and universality of social rights, to be conscious of social justice and the protection of environment and resources,
10 To be able to pursue and analyse national and international contemporary issues in the discipline of International Relations (IR); to be educated as intellectual, credible and creative individuals who contribute the development of our society and can take initiative.
